Tweedy - I'll Sing It

I don't know who came up with the term "dad rock", but I'd say that it's a phrase that's even lamer than Dave Matthews, Coldplay, or Jack Johnson. Anyhow, Jeff Tweedy and his son Spencer Tweedy have a new record coming out September 16 called Sukierae, and one song is available for your pleasure. Here is I'll Sing It.


 

World Away is supposedly on the new record too, according to Rolling Stone.

JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound

So far this year, maybe the coolest thing I've heard and seen is JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound. Hailing from Chicago, JBUS is making the most joyful sound ever, timeless tunes that fit in with Otis Redding, James Brown, Sam Cooke, and maybe a few other soul legends. For self-proclaimed influences, the band lists not only James Brown and the Stax, Motown, Atlantic, and Chess labels, but also The Clash, Iggy and the Stooges, Bad Brains, Lenny Bruce, and the SST and Dischord labels.



I first saw/heard JC Brooks and the Uptown sound with this video. I love how JC introduces their cover of Wilco's I Am Trying to Break Your Heart by saying that it's a song "by our favourite Chicago soul singer" - Jeff Tweedy should be happy about that, don't you think?



Her's the video for Baltimore is the New Brooklyn. Looks like the '70s can come back in a good way, doesn't it?

Jay Bennet VS Wilco & Jeff Tweedy Part 2

Tweedy explains he "Can't help it if you love us! And we love you! Wilco will love you."

In an unprecedented move, former Wilco bandmember Jay Bennett has launched a second civil suit against both Wilco and Jeff Tweedy. The suit alleges that Wilco/Tweedy did "willfully become cooler, more popular, and more commercially successful" after he was ousted from the band. Bennett's lawsuit, which seems to have been drawn up by lawyer Justin Kidding, cites recent appearances on the Colbert Show, extensive Wilco touring schedules, and ubiquitous music blog tags for both Tweedy and Wilco as evidence.
Bennett has said, "I'm doing some pretty cool things now. Why can't we talk about that?"
Although Tweedy could not be reached for a response, the guitar that sometimes speaks for him said, "All of those claims are true...can he really sue us for that?"
